Supported Decision Making (SDM) Workshops

Through a series of fun, highly interactive and thought provoking activities, young people with a disability are immersed in the decision making process. Importantly, the participants are taught simple techniques that allow them to work more effectively with those involved in the decision making process. This is particularly crucial in the lead up to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which has a strong emphasis on the person with a disability being empowered to make their own choices.
The “Decisions, decisions….” Supported Decision Making program aims to:
• Improve the communication skills and confidence of young people in the decision
making process
• Empower young people to speak up and ensure their voices are heard
• Provide young people with the tools and knowledge to make informed decisions with the support of their families and carers and subsequently build their capacity to exercise choice and control on issues that impact upon them

The following link provides a brief introductory film to the workshop and we recommend participants view it prior to attending the Supported Decision Making workshop.
